Concert Series

Darlington Chamber Music Series celebrates its TWENTIETH birthday this year, and we begin our welcome to this special series by acknowledging the Whadjuk Nyoongar people, Traditional Custodians of the land on which our concerts are given, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

We cannot quite believe it and are so grateful to our wonderful committee and loyal audience members who have supported us throughout our journey to this incredible milestone. To celebrate, we have decided to present a series celebrating some old favourites and hopefully, some new favourites as well!

We start the year with the evergreen Dumky Trio by Dvorak and the much-loved Trout Quintet by Schubert. In the second concert, we have invited our wonderful colleagues from Trio Tiramisu to treat you to some delightful music in their inimitable style. Tommaso Pollio was our original pianist when we started the Darlington series, so we’re thrilled that he’s coming to celebrate with us. Our third concert features the Darlington String Quartet, newly appointed as Quartet in Residence at WAAPA. We will be playing Janacek’s powerful Intimate Letters, Haydn’s delightful Frog Quartet and music by the fabulous Danish Quartet. In Concert Four, Graeme will be back with the quartet in a program featuring composers Garth Knox, Kodaly and Mahler, finishing with the thrillingly sublime piano quintet by Brahms.

Our final concert forms the focus of our celebrations - a gala concert - bringing our dear friend mezzo soprano Caitlin Hulcup back to her hometown of Perth from Berlin. We have a smorgasbord of treats for you, including music by Brahms, Schubert, Respighi, Strauss and a new commission from our favourite composer in the Perth Hills, Emma Jayakumar. We are so grateful for the grant we received from the Australian Business Enterprise Centre (ABEC) last year for making this concert possible, and for giving us the confidence to promise many more concerts of wonderful chamber music in the future – with your continued support, perhaps even for another twenty years!

We can’t wait to share all this music and chat about it with you over afternoon tea following each concert, and possibly even over a glass of champers following our gala event!
